Halloween on the Greens: 3rd Annual Haggin Oaks Trick-or-Treat

View Post

A fun-filled day of candy, costumes, and community made this year’s Haggin Oaks Trick-or-Treat one to remember!

Trick or Treat at Haggin Oaks started out a day early when 4 of our volunteers arrived to decorate a few golf carts and turn Haggin Oaks into a fun but scary place to Trick or Treat the next day.

The volunteers out did themselves with Halloween decorations, cart decorating, pumpkins, spiders and more . . .

Saturday, October 18th was a beautiful sunny day of near 80 degrees for a perfect day of Trick or Treating and giving back to our local community.

Several volunteers arrived early to blow up balloons and get 10 candy stations ready.  There was a Halloween map given out at the front door to the Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop with directions on how to get the most candy and have fun doing it.

Complimentary mini golf was offered near the driving range, a coloring station to color onsite or at home.  Then it was off to several different photo opportunities to put on your social media later.

Halfway during the event Brandy Legay, Food & Beverage Assistant Manager had to run out and buy more candy because we never want to disappoint the children.

Capital City Honda’s General Manager, Josh Welch was another great partner this year when he delivered a brand-new Honda HR-V that added a lot of style to the event.  He put a skeleton at the wheel and filled the trunk full of chocolate candy.

All the families left Haggin Oaks knowing that this is a fun and safe place to come any time of the year.

Happy Halloween to all!

2025 L5 Investments Capital Cup: Raising $2.7 Million for Sacramento Nonprofits

The 2025 L5 Investments Capital Cup, held from September 12-14, brought together 32 local golfers for four months of fundraising, each supporting a charity of their choice. True to tradition, 100% of all donations go directly back to nonprofits making a difference in the Greater Sacramento area.

Since its inception 11 years ago, the Capital Cup has raised over $20 million, supporting more than 90 regional charities. This year’s event alone contributed an impressive $2.7 million, reinforcing the tournament’s reputation as one of Sacramento’s most impactful philanthropic events.

A Unique Blend of Competition and Charity

Unlike traditional charity events, the Capital Cup ensures that nearly all funds raised go directly to the supported nonprofits. Each participant invests $2,800 to play, with their individual fundraising efforts dedicated to their chosen charities. This model has helped the Capital Cup become the second-largest fundraiser in the Sacramento region, second only to the Big Day of Giving.

The tournament’s format includes three days of competitive golf at prestigious local courses:

  • Day One: Modified two-person alternating shot at Northridge Country Club
  • Day Two: Two-man best ball at Del Paso Country Club
  • Day Three: Individual match play at Granite Bay Golf Club

Tom Morton and Uri Carrazco: Champions for the Morton Golf Foundation

Among the 32 participants were Tom Morton, President of the Morton Golf Foundation, and Uri Carrazco, both of whom chose the Morton Golf Foundation as their charity of choice. Together, they raised a combined total of $213,000, directly benefiting the foundation’s programs and initiatives.

Celebrating Local Nonprofits

The tournament culminated in an Awards Presentation, where representatives from 32 local nonprofits were honored. These organizations ranging from youth programs to health initiatives, are now empowered to continue their vital work in the community.

Looking Ahead

As the L5 Investments Capital Cup continues to grow, its influence on the Sacramento community becomes more profound. The 2025 event serves as a testament to what can be achieved when individuals come together, combing their passion for golf with a commitment to making a difference.

Friend of Morton Golf Foundation Jim Sewell

Starting in 2022 Jim Sewell from Optimist Club of Country Club partnered with Morton Golf Foundation to provide a Back-to-School Giveaway for all the students at Robla Elementary School in Sacramento.

This is a low-income neighborhood that appreciates the community coming together to make their coming school year the best.

On Saturday, August 2nd Morton Golf Foundation will again join the Optimist Club of Country Club along with several other non-profits within Sacramento to welcome these students back.

The annual give aways provides these families with their necessities offering new shoes, socks, and underwear along with a fresh haircut and health care tips. The local food bank also makes sure each family goes home with enough food to prepare their next meal.

When the families leave Robla Elementary School after these powerful giveaways their family is not only set for the school year ahead but ready to tackle day to day needs.

Jim Sewell is not only a philanthropist but also a golfer.

Today, June 17th Jim is playing in the 3rd Annual Sacramento Valley Senior Amateur golf tournament at Haggin Oaks on the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course.

Jim has been playing golf for many years and enjoys the competition along with meeting new friends at each event.

Morton Golf Foundation is very proud of our partnership with Jim and the Optimist Club of Country Club.

We hope there are many years ahead where we can continue to make a difference both on and off the course.

Special Olympics Golf Regionals Held at Haggin Oaks on September 13, 2024

Nearly 500 athletes and their caregivers gathered at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex for a day of fun, and skill-building, and camaraderie at the Special Olympics Golf Regionals.

For the past fourteen years Morton Golf Foundation has been a key sponsor of Special Olympics Golf Regionals at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.

This year, nearly 500 Special Olympics Athletes & their caregivers showed up with a positive attitude knowing they were going to spend a fun morning at the golf course.

Several athletes arrived early to play golf on MacKenzie Golf Course along with a separate group playing a Shotgun scramble on Arcade Creek Golf Course. While they were playing on the course the remaining athletes went to the back of the range to showcase their golf skills.  There were 5 different skills stations set up with over 30 Morton Golf Foundation volunteers guiding them through their contest.

The morning ended with the Haggin Oaks famous burger bar to enjoy while they cheered on each Athlete as they received their metal.

Several volunteers have already approached us to make sure they stay on our volunteer list for next year. The first time we ask them and from then on, the volunteers ask us to help.

This event is always our best event of the year as we all believe that the Special Olympics Athletes are the real winners. Thanks for everyone’s support & we look forward to seeing you back next September.

4th Annual Sacramento Valley Women’s Amateur Championship

First Annual Sacramento Junior Championship Presented by Morton Golf Foundation

The first annual Sacramento Junior Championship was held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on March 28 – 31, 2024.

AJGA Logo Red on white background

In the fall of 2023, two members of the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) came to Haggin Oaks to discuss with Morton Golf Foundation thoughts about hosting an AJGA junior tournament at Haggin Oaks.

Morton Golf Foundation had the vision of knowing they wanted to allow junior golfers to participate in the best competition at the most prestigious junior tour in the United States right here in Sacramento. This allowed several junior golfers in Northern California to sleep in their own bed and compete on a golf course they had competed on before. The seed was planted, and a five-year commitment contract was signed.

The first annual AJGA tournament was held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on the MacKenzie Golf Course on March 28 – 31, 2024. The field featured 96 juniors, ages 12-18, with a mixture of boys and girls. The excitement was overwhelming as the junior players anticipated that this tour would have college coaches looking at the players in the hope of offering college scholarships.

AJGA tournaments are played all around the United States. The AJGA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women players. The mission of the AJGA Foundation mirrors the mission of Morton Golf Foundation. When AJGA staff stepped onto the property of Haggin Oaks and began working with the Morton Golf staff it was seamless in providing a first-class event.

We are all excited for the future AJGA events at Haggin Oaks as we continue to give junior golfers their opportunity to shine.

Mark your calendar for April 17 – 20, 2025 to see the BEST junior golf talent playing right
