Morton Golf Foundation Junior Grant Winner Wins The 2025 Women’s State Fair Amateur Championship at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course 

This year Gianna Singh, age 16, a High School senior, won the 2025 Women’s State Fair Amateur Championship.

The final round ended with excitement on Hole # 18 when Gianna hit her tee shot into the water & created a playoff for her and Sneha Sharan, a former Sac State Women’s Golf Team player.

On Hole #1 you could hear a pin drop when both ladies hit shots right down the middle, and both were on the green in 2. Sneha missed her putt & Gianna dropped hers to win the playoff hole.

Next year, it was announced that the Sacramento Golf Council could possibly move this tournament up a few weeks, so it does not conflict with any other tournaments.

We are all looking forward to watching Gianna defend her title next year before she heads to play on the Women’s golf team at Grand Canyon University in Arizona.

4th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway for the Robla Elementary School District

The 4th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway for Robla Elementary School District was held on August 2.

Each year, Morton Golf Foundation partners with the Optimist of Country Club to give away adidas shoes, socks, and underwear. Six different elementary schools from the Robla school district are invited to get ready for their upcoming school year. The families enjoy their time visiting several other non-profits, First Tee – Greater Sacramento, Sacramento Library, school Health Nurse, and Playmakers, just to name a few.

Over 60% of the elementary school students are unhoused. If they did not make it out to today’s giveaway, they can contact their teacher in hopes of a remaining pair to be used throughout the year.

This day has an impact on everyone; a coat giveaway was added at Christmas time to provide winter warmth for all.

This was a very profound day that stays with you when you know you are making a difference.

Can’t wait to do it all over again.

Golf Fore Health Hot Dog Scramble

The Annual Golf Fore Health Hot Dog Scramble was held on June 25, 2025, at The Haggin Oaks Golf Complex

Golf Fore Health finishes their spring season with another beautiful golf morning at Haggin Oaks.

36 participants along with their Caregivers and Volunteers teed off to enjoy 9-holes of golf on the Arcade Creek Golf Course at Haggin Oaks.  The group picture proves that everyone was smiling and couldn’t wait to get on the first tee to enjoy their round.

Golf Fore Health is a program that consists of two 9-week sessions during the months of May, June, September, and October each year.  The class spends most of its time on the golf course on Wednesday mornings from 10:45 am to 12:15 pm.

These coaching sessions are for all levels of golfers and is designed around the golfers that want to improve as well as learn the basics.

The participants enjoy the program so much that, in-between sessions Coach Ken Hurdle organizes “Summer School”.  This is a way to practice your golf skills with volunteers and leaders every other Monday morning before the start of the next session.

Participants come to “Golf Fore Health” with varied experiences.  It does not matter if you are a brand-new golfer or one who has been playing for years there is always space for you to join the group!

All participants are there to enjoy a healthy outdoor recreational experience.

It’s much better to rehabilitate on the golf course instead of in a doctor’s office.

City Team Wins 6th Annual Capital Golf Challenge

On Friday, June 20th, the 6th Annual Capital Golf Challenge was played in a Ryder Cup Format.

The City Elected Officials played the County Elected Officials, and the City won the match.

All proceeds will go toward the new Hiram Johnson High School Golf & Life Skills Facility.

This is an ongoing annual event that will help students enjoy learning the game of golf and life skills they will be using in their every day life.

First Tee Funvitational at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex

Haggin Oaks Golf Complex hosted the First Tee Funvitational on June 20. A fun day for Junior/Senior pairings to golf together.

Tom & Evan Morton playing in a 2-person team at this year’s Jr/Sr Funvitational today on MacKenzie Golf Course.  Tom & Evan hope to win the Best Dressed Category wearing MGF logoed shirts proudly.

The Funvitational is an annual event put on each year by First Tee Sacramento. This year was the 32nd iteration of the event and it was hosted at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on the Alister Mackenzie Course.


Who Is First Tee & Why They Put on the Funvitational


The First Tee is a non-profit youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, they create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. Their Junior Golf Programs instill fundamental character traits and life skills in youth golfers.

The Funvitational gives an opportunity for their junior golfers to shine even when playing among senior golfers. In addition to being a fun showcase for their junior golfers, the funvitational raises funds that allow First Tee to lead youth development programs. Friend of Morton Golf Foundation Jim Sewell

Starting in 2022 Jim Sewell from Optimist Club of Country Club partnered with Morton Golf Foundation to provide a Back-to-School Giveaway for all the students at Robla Elementary School in Sacramento.

This is a low-income neighborhood that appreciates the community coming together to make their coming school year the best.

On Saturday, August 2nd Morton Golf Foundation will again join the Optimist Club of Country Club along with several other non-profits within Sacramento to welcome these students back.

The annual give aways provides these families with their necessities offering new shoes, socks, and underwear along with a fresh haircut and health care tips. The local food bank also makes sure each family goes home with enough food to prepare their next meal.

When the families leave Robla Elementary School after these powerful giveaways their family is not only set for the school year ahead but ready to tackle day to day needs.

Jim Sewell is not only a philanthropist but also a golfer.

Today, June 17th Jim is playing in the 3rd Annual Sacramento Valley Senior Amateur golf tournament at Haggin Oaks on the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course.

Jim has been playing golf for many years and enjoys the competition along with meeting new friends at each event.

Morton Golf Foundation is very proud of our partnership with Jim and the Optimist Club of Country Club.

We hope there are many years ahead where we can continue to make a difference both on and off the course.

Men’s City Championship at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex

The Men’s City Championship was played at Haggin Oaks on Saturday, June 7 & Sunday, June 8.

Morton Golf Foundation Junior Golf Development Grant winner, Kenny Yang, played with Marc Paracuelles as his caddie. They both wore Morton Golf Foundation shirts to give them confidence & good luck in their 2-day rounds.

Remembering Our Fallen Soldiers This Memorial Day

PGA HOPE enjoys weekly golf rounds, but this Memorial Day was special when Valorie Gleason, PGA HOPE Team Captain, enjoyed her round with six other Veterans.

PGA HOPE is a flagship military program of PGA Reach and the Northern California PGA Foundation. 

This is a golf program taught by PGA and LPGA Professionals that have been trained in adaptive golf & military culture.

PGA HOPE is open to all Veterans and Active Duty service members to enhance their overall physical and mental well-being.

We thanks all veterans from all branches of our military with a huge salute for their service.

“The Putting Party” Plus Morton Golf Foundation Scholarship Winners

The evening of Wednesday, May 14th, at Haggin Oaks was another glorious night.  The winds were down; a few clouds were in the sky, and the excitement was high for the 13th Annual Morton Golf Foundation “Putting Party” fundraiser.

There were 18 5-person TEAMS created to play in a miniature golf course setting.  There were nearly 100 putters on the MacKenzie Putting Green, laughing and enjoying the beautiful evening.

When the putting was complete everyone moved on to the Pavilion tent to enjoy a buffet dinner, a small silent auction, and awards.

The 2025 Morton Golf Foundation College Scholarship WINNERS and their parents were invited to join in the dinner and show the 100 donors that our future leaders were in the room.

Frank LaRosa was the emcee of the event and as he announced each student’s name, he told us where they graduated from and which college they had chosen.  Frank read a short quote that each student had written in their scholarship application, telling us a little bit about their personality.  When the 20 winners stood before us, we were all so proud, and everyone stood up to clap, knowing our future was in good hands.

Hope to see you next year when there will be new scholarship winners and more leaders on the way.

Morton Golf Foundation Junior Golfer, Sophia Lee Qualifies for 2025 U.S. Women’s Open

Fairfield’s own Sophia Lee, a proud junior golfer of the Morton Golf Foundation junior programs, continues to make waves in the world of golf. The 18-year-old standout has officially qualified for the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open, set for May 28–June 1 at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.

Sophia earned her spot by delivering a stellar performance at the U.S. Open Qualifier hosted at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento. Facing a competitive field of 84 players, she shot an impressive 67-70—137 (5-under), finishing third and securing one of only three qualifying spots.

Local golf fans will remember Sophia not only as the 2024 State Fair Junior Tournament champion but also as a regular on the Sacramento Golf Council’s junior circuit over the past six years. As a longtime participant in Morton Golf Foundation programs, Sophia honed both her golf skills and life skills, growing into one of the Sacramento region’s brightest young golf talents.

“Watching Sophia develop from a young junior golfer into a U.S. Women’s Open qualifier is exactly why the Morton Golf Foundation exists,” said Foundation Representative. “Her success reflects her talent and determination, but also the community that has supported her journey.”

Sophia has verbally committed to  Sacramento State University to play on the Women’s Golf Team. But first, she’ll compete on one of the biggest stages in golf at Erin Hills, carrying with her the pride and support of the entire Morton Golf Foundation family.
