Who Is First Tee & Why They Put on the Funvitational

The First Tee is a non-profit youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, they create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. Their Junior Golf Programs instill fundamental character traits and life skills in youth golfers.

The Funvitational gives an opportunity for their junior golfers to shine even when playing among senior golfers. In addition to being a fun showcase for their junior golfers, the funvitational raises funds that allow First Tee to lead youth development programs. Get involved or read more about First Tee on their website. Thank you to First Tee for serving our community and congratulations on another successful Funvitational!

31st Annual Junior Senior Funvitational

The 31st annual Junior/Senior FUNVITATIONAL was held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on Friday, July 29, 2022.

Every year we gather for the Junior Senior Funvitational when an adult plays golf side-by-side with a junior player.

This is an opportunity that doesn’t happen often throughout the year which is why it is so special.

Morton Golf Foundation is a huge supporter of this event as it involves most of the junior players who are supported by Morton Golf Foundation all year long.

This year, Jack Fidler (2nd of left) was the PROUD recipient of the Marilyn & Bob Hughes Scholarship Award.

Jack will be attending Sierra College this fall and this scholarship will help him meet his college goals.

Thanks again to Marilyn Hughes for presenting this award to Jack Fidler at this year’s luncheon.

Marilyn & Bob Hughes have been volunteers with First Tee – Greater Sacramento for many years.

We are already looking forward to seeing Marilyn again next year at this “fun” event.

29th Annual Jr/Sr Funvitational Hits it Right Down the Middle

With all the cancellations happening with COVID-19 it was a pleasure that the fun could continue at the 29th Annual Jr/Sr Funvitational at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, CA on July 31, 2020.

Jr/Sr Funvitational

It was straight tee times instead of a shotgun start and the lunch & awards could not be held following golf due to social distancing requirements.

All day on the golf course you could hear shouts across the fairway as friends were cheering on their fellow golfers. The format was a 2-person scramble. What a great way to work as a team for all 18 holes.

There were smiles all around as the tournament ended and it was bumping elbows to thank your foursome for a great round.

The day was enjoyed by approximately 100 golfers and several were Morton Golf Foundation Board Members and friends.

Our hats are off to The a First Tee of Greater Sacramento TEAM for putting on another great event. Their continued hard work was well worth it!

Please join us next year at this event as we ALL support junior golf!

2019 Jr/Sr Funvitational was a Huge Success

What happens when you mix 132 golfers with the same number of frozen Snickers bars? This combination always equals a successful equation for the Jr/Sr Funvitational.

On June 28, 2019, all participants gathered at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, CA, for a golf tournament demonstrating skill, sportsmanship and most importantly, fun times for all!

Cobra/Puma was the main sponsor of the event on this mild Friday morning which featurs junior players with their ‘senior’ partners.

Morton Golf Foundation was at the registration area early to greet everyone. As soon as the golfers drove off to start their 7:30 a.m. shotgun, the Morton Golf Foundation TEAM slipped off to decorate the “candy cart”. Each year the Morton Golf Foundation TEAM visits every golf hole to thank all the participants for coming out. The best part is that the TEAM offers each group a highly anticipated and much appreciated frozen Snickers bar. For those golfers that prefer a healthier alternative, Reese’s peanut butter cups were offered. 🙂

The Morton Golf Foundation TEAM are also some of the judges for the “Team Spirit” category. This is where each 2-person team has the opportunity to participate in dressing alike to add spirit to the event.

Before we knew it the golf round was complete and we were off to the luncheon.

The First Tee of Greater Sacramento gives out their annual college scholarships along with winning prizes for all age categories.

For next June, start thinking about who your partner will be for in your 2-person team & how you can create sportsmanship for the “Team Spirit” award.

Hope to see you there!
